GALLERY GUIDELINES VAC Gallery Lower Hall

Victoria Arts Connection is a high traffic facility with a broad range of users and visitors from children and youth and their families and adults who utilize the centre for courses in dance and theatrical arts to special events groups and organizations. We estimate up to 1500 visitors on a weekly basis.

SUBMISSIONS

VAC invites submissions from individual visual artists, groups and independent curators working in all media to submit proposals for exhibitions. Your proposal should include: Top

* a brief description of the proposed exhibition
* 10-20 images or media files (CD ROM or online digital portfolio)
* list of titles, dimensions and media
* current curriculum vitae Top

TYPE OF WORK:

2d - painting, drawing, prints, photography, fibre, glasswork, multimedia
3d - at this time VAC does not have covered cabinetry, plinths or display cases for 3d work. However, we encourage artists or groups to submit a proposal for a sculpture exhibition that can be displayed on our open plinths courtesy of The Vancouver Island Sculptors Guild.

SECURITY AND INSURANCE

As noted above VAC is a high traffic facility. The centre has a security service that provides regular cross-through foot patrol through the building on a daily basis. VAC staff and volunteers will endeavor to ensure the security and safe keeping of all art works however the centre can not be held liable for any loss or damage to art works, display items or equipment. Artists must provide their own insurance for artwork.

LENGTH OF EXHIBITIONS

Exhibitions will run for 4-8 weeks depending on other programming activities at VAC. Top

INSTALLATION AND REMOVAL OF WORK

Exhibitions will be installed and struck by the exhibitions Curator. If special requirements are necessary for the installation of an exhibition then the artist(s) will work with the Curator to ensure the safe and appropriate installation/striking of the show is undertaken. A damage deposit of $100.00 may be required. Artists will be responsible for any additional costs if specialized assistance or equipment is required. All art work must be removed from the premises within 48 hours of the strike date unless other arrangements are made with the Curator. Top

SALE OF WORK & ARTIST FEES

At present VAC is unable to offer Artist Fees however artists are welcome to sell their work. If any sales are made over $100 a donation toward the gallery of 15% of the total sales is appreciated. VAC will forward any potential sale leads to the artists and we encourage you to keep a supply of business cards and a price list with contact information on the premises.

PUBLICITY AND PROMOTION

VAC will support artists to the best of its ability and resources by networking with it’s members, audience and other organizations to promote exhibitions via the web site, email promotions, newsletter, press release, invitation and poster distribution. Other promotion options can be discussed with the Curator. VAC will host an hospitality opening with the artist. Costs associated with the design, production and direct costs of distribution of promotion materials and opening reception is the responsibility of the artist(s). Top

EXHIBITION AGREEMENT FORM (download pdf)

If an artist or group is offered an exhibition at VAC Gallery he/she/group will have 2 weeks to accept or decline the offer. If accepted an Exhibition Agreement Form must be completed and returned to the Curator by the deadline. Top
